Biographical Information

Tamara Oser, M.D. was born and raised in Colorado before moving to Maryland where she attended the University of Maryland, College Park. She graduated medical school from the University of Pittsburgh where she stayed on to complete her residency in Family Medicine at UPMC Shadyside.  She spent three years practicing in rural Pennsylvania before joining the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where she practices at the Camp Hill location.

Dr. Oser is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Medicine, the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine, the American Balint Society, and Diabetes Advocates.

She enjoys a wide array of activities within the department including teaching medical students and serving as the Faculty Advisor to the Family Medicine Interest group along with Drs. Dennis Gingrich and Matthew Silvis. She has the great pleasure of co-leading the resident Balint Group with Dr. Ann Bogdan. She's had the honor of being involved with the Patient-Centered Medical Home curriculum, and has done research surrounding such.

Dr. Oser's research interests currently are focused on qualitative methods, and she is actively involved in research that looks at ways to provide patient support and encourage higher levels of patient activation in patients with chronic disease, using Type 1 diabetes as a model.

In her free time she volunteers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) where she and her family have raised close to $40,000.  She also is a trained JDRF mentor, and enjoys helping newly diagnosed families across the country.  She serves as faculty for the Children With Diabetes and presents annually at their international conference.  She most enjoys spending time with her husband and children traveling, camping, hiking, and a variety of outdoor activities.
