About Me

I am a professor of Pediatrics and the medical director of the (NICU), responsible for practice refinement, personnel management, and standards of professionalism. I am also the medical supervisor of the NICU's corps of advanced practice providers and the primary liaison between the neonatology group and Penn State Health's perioperative and delivery room services. My academic focuses are on quality improvement, patient safety, and education.

I was a member of the working group that planned the construction of Penn State Health Children's Hospital's three-story vertical expansion that opened in 2020. Additionally, I oversaw Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's participation in Vermont Oxford's multicenter quality improvement initiatives for neonatal care when they began in the mid-1990s. I frequently served as site coordinator for various quality improvement initiatives. I also participated in the launch of Penn State College of Medicine's problem-based learning curriculum and co-chaired a College of Medicine Student Admissions Committee.

I participated in regional outreach education of audiences ranging from elementary school students to academic referring institutions. My interest in global medicine led me to participate in several medical and educational mission trips to Ecuador, where I helped establish basic standards of care and contributed to the country’s educational curriculum. I maintain an intense interest in the management and education of families in the NICU and have received numerous national citations for my work to improve parental satisfaction in the NICU.
