Biographical Information

Jay Zimmermann, MD was born in New England but moved to Michigan during his elementary school years.   Dr. Zimmermann attended the University of Michigan for undergraduate and medical school.  He then moved south for his residency to the University of Virginia in 2001 and stayed there for an academic fellowship in 2004.  During his time at the University of Virginia Dr. Zimmermann learned more about information mastery/evidence based medicine (EBM), while furthering his research and teaching abilities.   Dr. Zimmermann chose to stay and work in a rural family practice in Virginia for almost 5 years before coming to Pennsylvania.  He is a strong proponent of being able to say "I can do that in my office" but knows the value of referring to a specialists in those instances when he cannot.

Dr. Zimmermann is currently involved in teaching to medical students at all levels of their 4 years at Hershey, as well as being involved with EBM in the medical student, Pennsylvania, and resident curriculum.   He is also involved in continuing education for the Family and Community Medicine faculty.
