Alan L. Brechbill is Executive Director of Hospital Operations for Penn State Health, including the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center and Penn State Children’s Hospital. In this role he also has authority over information technology, human resources, supply chain, marketing and other shared system-level functions which support hospital and outpatient operations.
Mr. Brechbill served as the executive director of Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 2006 to November 2016. Under his leadership, the Medical Center has achieved steady financial performance and continuous improvement in our patient care quality and safety measures.
Mr. Brechbill previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. He has more than 30 years of university hospital experience, the majority in leadership roles.
Mr. Brechbill earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, a master's in health care administration from George Washington University, and a master's in business administration and finance from Loyola University, Chicago.
Mr. Brechbill is active in community and professional leadership roles. He currently serves on the board of directors for Gift of Life, the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, and the Penn State University MHA and HPA programs. He previously served as a board member for the American Lung Association and Life Center Career Alliance, and was honorary chairperson for the Hershey Food Bank's capital campaign.
He and his wife, Carol, have two children, John and Sarah.
