Chief Medical Officer
Carol Freer, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P., C.P.E., '91, was appointed chief medical officer (CMO) for Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2012.
Dr. Freer joined Penn State Health in 2008 as associate professor of medicine and director of hospitalist outreach. In 2009, she became vice chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Medicine.
In her role as CMO, Dr. Freer fosters an environment of strong communication between clinicians and staff as well as with the patients. She feels this leads to improved patient experiences and increased quality outcomes. She has put a greater emphasis on quality throughout the organization and consistently works with organizational quality leaders to ensure that quality measures are at the forefront of our professional practice.
