Welcome to the Penn State Hershey Association of Faculty and Friends
The Association of Faculty and Friends of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine is a non-profit organization with a mission to support and promote medical education, research, clinical care and scholarship; provide a community of friendship to our members through interest groups; and to serve the needs of the community of which we are a part.
In furtherance of these objectives, the AFF engages in charitable activities in support of these goals. More..
Since 1968, the AFF has sponsored a luncheon and/or fashion show in the spring. This event was held at The Hotel Hershey® and included a lovely lunch and the opportunity to visit with friends and view the latest fashions from local stores. The Luncheon has become a major fundraiser and an equally important opportunity for social exchange between our membership and the community. Learn More >>

The Golf Classic was started in 2003 by Dr. Alexander Kalenak in memory of his late wife, Kay, as a way to raise funds and awareness about the need for Palliative Care in the Hershey community. During his wife's illness, Al realized that patients like Kay could benefit from a team approach that integrated medical, emotional, and spiritual support. Dr. Kalenak had a long and distinguished career as an orthopedic surgeon in the Hershey area and served as the team physician for the Penn State Football team. Since its inception, the Golf Classic has raised more than $250,000.
Dr. Kalenak passed away in 2009 but his legacy of supporting palliative care keeps going on. Palliative Medicine is medical care focused on providing comfort for the seriously ill through the relief of symptoms and stress. This type of medical care is useful at any stage of illness and can be provided along with curative treatments. The work of Palliative Care Service staff is dedicated to their strong belief that individuals should live well and attain the highest quality of life, regardless of the nature or severity of their illness.
Association of Faculty and Friends promotes medical education, research, clinical care, and scholarship. We are now currently accepting grant requests.
2014 Allocation requests are currently open.
