The Allergy and Immunology Clinic is a well-equipped, growing, and busy clinic servicing patients with immune mediated diseases including those with allergic rhinitis, asthma, hypersensitivity lung disorders, allergic skin rashes, anaphylaxis, drug and insect allergy and immunodeficiencies. Three physicians currently staff this clinic. The procedures that are available include rhinoscopy; skin testing for food allergy, bee sting allergy, drug allergy, and aeroallergens; pulmonary function testing, skin biopsy and drug and food challenges. The Allergy Service holds clinics in the ENT clinic that facilitates interaction with medicine residents, medical students, and ENT residents. Those rotating through the clinic will learn to interpret pulmonary function tests, perform skin test and skin biopsy procedures, learn how to perform cost-effective immune work-ups, and gain an appreciation for the effectiveness of immunotherapy.
Our research center is fully equipped to study asthma, rhinitis, skin and sleep disorders. On average we have 4 ongoing clinical asthma studies. A total of 6 to 8 studies can be run successfully. Our space, recruitment strategy, personnel, and equipment allows us to successfully complete investigator initiated and contracted research studies. As a group, Allergy has been very successful in clinical research. Our dropout rates are extremely low (less than 10%) and our subjects are outstanding in adherence. Our research program offers opportunities to our patients that are usually offered only in large metropolitan areas.
