The Melanoma Therapeutics team has been pursuing several lines of research, including target gene identification and validation, chemoprevention, drug discovery and development, drug delivery, and clinical research involving patients with or at risk for melanoma. Some of the projects they are working on include:

  • Assessing the use of Akt3 activity as a biomarker for staging melanoma, since activity is correlated with different stage melanomas, being weakest in common nevi and strongest in metastatic melanomas
  • Developing a mouse model that mimics human melanoma development
  • Targeting B-raf to prevent early melanoma development
