PhD Program Admission Requirements and Application Instructions

Requirements listed here are in addition to general Graduate School requirements stated in the GENERAL INFORMATION section of the Graduate Bulletin.

Applications should be submitted by February 1 for entry in the following fall semester. Only online applications will be accepted.

Please submit an electronic application to the Graduate School. We strongly recommend that you review the application first and collect all of the requested information before filling out and submitting your application.

A complete application includes (only complete applications are considered):

  • Please submit an electronic application to the Graduate School.
  • Qualified students with undergraduate preparation in either the biological, biochemical, or physical sciences and an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher will be considered for admission.
  • GRE general test scores (or scores from a comparable examination accepted by the graduate program, e.g., MCAT exam). Subject GRE scores are not required. School Code: 2660; Dept. Code: 0206
  • TOEFL score (if applicable).  Foreign applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English with the following minimum scores on the TOEFL examination. Paper exam:  550; Computer: 213; iBT: 80 with a minimum of 23 on the speaking section.  School Code: 2660, Dept: 74.
  • Two Original Transcripts from prior undergraduate and graduate institutions.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Brief personal statement summarizing the background and professional goals of the applicant.
