Welcome to Penn State Hershey Children's Heart Group
Penn State Hershey Children's Heart Group is a team of experienced pediatric cardiologists and pediatric and congenital heart surgeons, working together to provide the most advanced heart care for patients with congenital acquired heart disease from the smallest newborn, children, teenagers and adults with congenital heart defects within Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. With pediatric cardiologists in every subspecialty, and two expert pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, we have experience treating even the rarest of heart defects and conditions.
Our comprehensive program is a regional center of excellence in the care of children with heart disease. A focus on superior care distinguishes the Children's Heart Group from other teaching and academic centers. At our institution, the care of your child is entrusted to our fully trained, board-certified physicians. Children benefit directly from the expertise of pediatric cardiologists, pediatric and congenital heart surgeons, pediatric intensivists, pediatric anesthesiologists and a faculty of highly trained pediatric specialists, sub-specialists and support staff.
Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital is part of a first-of-its-kind report on pediatric and congenital heart surgery by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4). The report on pediatric cardiac surgery outcomes is a first in Pennsylvania, and is the only statewide reporting effort like it in the nation. The report shows that the outcomes for pediatric and congenital heart surgery at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital are the same or better than the national average.
The most recent report from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Congenital Heart Surgery Database ranks the pediatric heart surgery program at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital among the Top 15 in the country in survival following pediatric heart operations. These results have been achieved utilizing a multi-disciplinary team of pediatric specialists including heart surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, critical care physicians, neonatologists, nursing staff, and technologists in heart-lung bypass and respiratory care.
