Fourth-year medical students recently learned where they are headed for the next step in their career journey! Match Day is a nationwide event, in which medical students find out what residency program they've matched with and where they will be spending their next few years for training. The Penn State College of Medicine class is 100% matched, with 41% of the class staying in Pennsylvania for training, 25% entering primary care training and 32 students training within a Penn State Health facility.

Field-Defining Research

Penn State College of Medicine is home to internationally known physician scientist Giselle Saulnier Sholler, MD, and the Beat Childhood Cancer Research Consortium. Dr. Sholler’s research and clinical trials served as the basis for the FDA’s approval of the first drug to reduce the risk of relapse for pediatric high-risk neuroblastoma patients.

Training the Next Generation

Third-year medical student Lydia Smeltz was drawn to the opportunity to create a curriculum to prepare her fellow students and others on how to care for individuals with a disability. The new curriculum is now a part of the training for our MD and PA students.
