Painful Compression Fracture (IRB# 38986)

Description:

Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center researchers are studying the effect of an FDA approved vertebral augmentation system versus non-operative management of the level of pain, quality of life, and ability to function for the treatment of painful compression fractures of the spine.

As part of this study, volunteers age 21 to 90 years old with painful compression fracture due to osteoporosis in up to three bones in the spine are needed to compare FDA approved vertebral augmentation system to non-operative management.

Who may participate?

Adults age 21 to 90 years old with painful compression fracture due to osteoporosis in up to three bones in the spine.

 

Additional Study Details:

What is required?

  • X-ray
  • MRI (or CT+ bone scan)
  • Attend clinic visits
  • Answer questionnaires

Compensation is not provided. However, there is no cost to participate in the study, which includes tests or procedures that are part of the research.
