Description:
The purpose of this research is to find out if a study drug administered during the post operative period along with standard medical practice can speed up the recovery of bowel activity following intestinal surgery and reduce Post Operative Ileus (POI is little or no activity in the intestines).
The study consists of a screening period, an in patient treatment period, a follow up phone call 14 days after surgery and a follow up clinic visit 35 days after surgery.
Eligibility:
You may be eligible if you:
- are between 18 to 80 years old
- are scheduled to undergo open bowel resection
You will not be eligible if:
- you weigh more then 440 pounds
- need emergent surgery
- are scheduled to receive a stoma
- have laparoscopic surgery
- have epidural anesthesia

Compensation:
Time and travel expenses will be compensated with $100.00 after completing the follow up clinic visit 35 days after surgery.
