Carol S. Weisman, Ph.D.

Dr. Weisman is a sociologist and health services researcher with a principal interest in women's health. Her current research focuses on improving women's health prior to pregnancy in order to lower risks for adverse pregnancy outcomes, and on improving access to and quality of primary and preventive services for women in rural communities. She is Director of the Central Pennsylvania Center of Excellence for Research on Pregnancy Outcomes at Penn State and the Principal Investigator of the Penn State BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Careers in Women's Health) NIH K-12 Program. Dr. Weisman is Associate Editor of Women's Health Issues and was the 2007 Chair of the Board of Directors of AcademyHealth. Before joining the faculty of the Penn State College of Medicine in 2003, she was Professor at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. She is the author of over 125 publications.
