Program Director's Welcome

Daniel Schlegel, M.D. Program Director, Residency in Family and Community Medicine

Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center/The Good Samaritan Hospital Family and Community Medicine Residency Program is proud to offer exceptional training in an innovative model of residency education which blends the strength of a highly respected academic medical center with a vital and caring community hospital.

This is an exciting time for our program. Reflecting the strong support our residency enjoys from our partner institutions, we are in the midst of expanding our program from 6 residents per year to 12 residents per year, with the expansion to be complete in 2014. During a time when primary care is sorely needed but not always fully supported, this positive change illustrates that Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital respect and recognize the importance of primary care and are invested in our program’s success and growth.

Our team is committed to excellence and continuous improvement in resident education and patient care. The program seeks to ensure that all residents achieve their greatest potential by providing a supportive and challenging learning environment characterized by outstanding program achievement. I am proud to invite you to discover the challenging, vital program we offer, designed to form you into an outstanding Family Physician.
