The Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship program is a comprehensive two year fellowship program. The five board certified faculty run a busy service that covers the gamut of CT surgery procedures. The first year focuses on thoracic surgery and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery (with Dr. Jack Meyers) and the second year focuses on adult cardiac surgery including heart failure surgery, valvular surgery, aortic surgery, CABG and cardiac transplantation. Trainees can expect to perform at least 350 operations as primary surgeon, and participate in an extensive ventricular assist device and artificial heart program. In the Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute, the opportunity to experience other treatment modalities is encouraged.
