Residents in Camp Hill and surrounding communities now have expanded heart and thoracic surgery services available to them closer to their homes. The team of heart and thoracic surgeons performing surgery at Holy Spirit Hospital has grown from a team of two to a team of eight, with the addition of six surgeons from Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute.
With this new relationship, comes additional capabilities for robotic and video assisted thoracic surgery and robotic heart surgery. Thoracic surgery is the field of surgery that focuses on the chest, lungs, and esophagus. Video assisted thoracic surgery and robotic surgeries are minimally invasive techniques that offer less scarring and less recovery time for patients to get back to living their lives.
Creating expanded access to these advanced surgical options allows local residents to stay closer to their own communities to receive this care.
