Carotid body tumor resection is a surgical procedure involving the removal of a paraganglioma or carotid body tumor. The carotid body is a small neurovascular structure located at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery.
The carotid body plays a role in regulation of blood pressure. Signs and symptoms of carotid body tumors are variable (e.g., changes in neck size, hoarseness, hearing loss, dysphagia, stridor, tongue weakness, dizziness).
