The George T. Harrell Health Sciences Library is pleased to roll out a new service: E-readers!

How many e-readers are available?

Twelve Amazon Kindles and 10 Sony Readers are available for check out. 

How do I check out an e-reader?

Any registered Penn State Hershey library user may check out a device for a 2-week period with their ID.  Please inquire at the library’s circulation desk or call 717-531-8989 if you have any questions. 

What titles are available on the e-readers?

Currently the same titles are on all 22 devices (see the list of titles below).  More content will be added in the future.  Suggestions are welcome.

What is the purpose of this project?

  • Increase our students’ access to biomedical information resources
  • Explore the benefits and drawbacks of e-book reader device functionality for the type of study and interaction with information engaged in by medical students
  • Explore best practices for library management of e-book reader devices

How was this project funded?

These devices were purchased with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. NO1-LM-6-3501 with the New York University School of Medicine, through a competitive grant program.
