Advanced Standing Admission
A limited number of students with compelling reasons are considered for transfer/advanced standing admission. Applicants may only transfer into the third year of the medical curriculum. Only students who are or have been enrolled in a Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical school and who are recommended by the deans of those schools may apply. All applicants are required to have taken and passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam and report these scores to the College of Medicine.
Student considering advanced standing admission should submit a formal letter of request for an application. In this letter, the applicant should include his/her detailed reasons and motivations for requesting transfer admission, how his/her experiences meets the guidelines and requirements on our website, and mailing information to where the application should be sent.
This letter of request will then be presented to the Admissions Committee, and the Committee will then indicate to the Office of Student Admissions if an application is to be sent. If sent, the application will be accompanied by instructions which will clearly indicate what additional materials should be sent to the admissions office, to whom they should be addressed, and which documents can be copies and which must be originals. Applications must be filed between January 15 and April 15.
