In collaboration with the Department of Neurology, scientists in the department of Neurosurgery have discovered a genetic variant that is present in 30% of patients with ALS.  These investigators have developed models to understand how this gene variant could be associated with this devastating disease.  Scientists in the department of Neurosurgery are also developing nanotechnology platforms to deliver pharmaceutical agents and gene therapy to patients with ALS.
