The Department of Neurosurgery has a long standing collaboration with the Departments of Neurology and Radiology to investigate changes in cognitive function with age.  The group has a particular focus on using neuroimaging, performance on cognitive tasks, genetics and biomarkers that can be used to predict declines in cognition that may signal progression from mild cognitive impairment to dementia.  The group also has a program to determine biomarkers that may assist in the diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus and provide predictive value for which patients may improve following surgery.
