How to Apply
The Penn State Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery program carefully reviews all applications received by our program each year. The candidacy of applicants is not based on any singular factor, but a holistic review of the entire package of provided materials. Key items we need for this selection process include
- ERAS application listing your experiences
- At least 3 letters of recommendation
- USMLE scores
- Medical school transcript
- Dean’s letter
- Personal statement.
Interview offers are then made to applicants who we feel have qualifications and attributes best suited to being successful in our program. Interview dates are typically in December and January.
Applicants may apply to the Otolaryngology (traditional) or Otolaryngology / Research Track in ERAS. This is helpful to us in prioritizing and best evaluating the application. However, those applying to the Otolaryngology track who are offered interviews will be provided with information on the Research Track and can express interest in being considered for that Track as well. The applicant would ultimately need to rank one or both of our 2 programs as they feels fits their interests.
Our program utilizes the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) for all applications. If you wish to apply to our program, please do so thorough these services.
The deadline for application is November 1. If offered an interview, you will be contacted with the date options.
