Autologous Transplant
Autologous means “self”. Autologous stem cell transplants involve collection of the patient's cells which are frozen and used later following high dose chemotherapy. This chemotherapy is given to kill cancer cells, and the patient is then infused with their own stem cells. Autologous stem cell transplantation is most commonly used for patients with relapsed solid tumors including:
- Neuroblastoma
- Brain Tumors
- Lymphomas (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin)
Physicians at the Penn State Hershey Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Program specialize in all of these high risk malignancies.
