Applicants must have received their baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university prior to starting the graduate program. Applicants who are still completing their baccalaureate requirements at the time of the application may be admitted to the Graduate School conditional on the awarding of the baccalaureate degree.
Admission to the PHS program is based on clear suitability for the program as demonstrated by the application as a whole, to include the following:
- Completed application at Graduate School Admissions and Program Information Portal
- Evidence of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
- A statement of career and educational goals;
- A successful undergraduate record with a GPA of 3.0*;
- Satisfactory Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required if the GPA is less than 3.0*;
- Three years of professional work experience*;
- A current resume; and
- Two letters of reference.
* The GPA/GRE requirement may be relaxed if the student has professional experience or other strong evidence suggesting likely success in the PHS program. Some applicants may be accepted on a non-matriculated probationary basis, pending performance at the B (3.00) level or higher over 15 hours of approved credit.
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English with a minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL of 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 20 on the speaking section for the internet-based test.
Admission is based on evaluation by the Graduate Application Review Committee of the Department of Public Health Sciences of the undergraduate transcript, written responses, and two letters of recommendation. The program begins in the fall semester each year and courses are taken sequentially during the first two semesters. Research experience of the applicant is also a significant component of the evaluation process. Qualified applicants may be invited to visit the department for an interview prior to acceptance decisions.
