Miles for Smiles 5K Run/Walk
Penn State Hershey Plastic Surgery and the Plastic Surgery Interest Group invites you, your family, and friends to participate in the Miles for Smiles 5K Run/Walk race organized by Penn State Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a medical charity dedicated to helping children who are afflicted with cleft palate and other facial deformities. The organization provides surgeries at significantly reduced cost to those in need and trains healthcare providers from around the world to sustain local programs. Medical volunteers donate their time and expertise, and are deployed for short intervals in one of the 51 participating countries around the world. Corporate sponsors also donate equipment and revenue, along with private donations. Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.
