Emergency Psychiatry

As part of the emergency psychiatry experience, residents rotate through the Triage and Evaluation Center (TEC). The TEC, located on first floor of PPI, provides emergency evaluation services by Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP), residents, and attending physicians. On this service, residents work closely with the QMHP's and the faculty. An attending physician is always available either in person or by phone to review each case.

This is a structured rotation designed to develop the residents’ skills in evaluation, diagnosis, management, and disposition for a broad variety of psychiatric emergencies. It deepens the residents’ knowledge and understanding of psychiatric crises, including their consequences on a patient’s life. Different treatment modalities are utilized.
