Medical Student Psychiatric Interest Group
PING, the Psychiatric Interest Group, is a student-organized interest group for medical students interested in Psychiatry. Generally, its officers are underclassmen, since participation in such campus-based societies is hit-or-miss with those in their clinical years. All such groups have a faculty advisor; the faculty advisor for this group is Dr. Fauzia Mahr.
The society organizes many social events related to improving awareness in Psychiatry and panel discussions to improve the education of medical students in various aspects of Psychiatry.
Among the many events that PING organizes annually is the annual Psychiatric awareness day, quarterly movie nights at the residence of the Chairman of Psychiatry, multiple panel discussions with key faculty members in Psychiatry, Psych club field trips, and periodic lunchtime sales to raise money for the club and build networks.
PING also helps coordinate a post-match party for those who are graduating and headed into psychiatry residency and offers mentoring by residents and fellowship trainees in Psychiatry for medical students as an additional support mechanism.
