One of the roles of shift supervisors and charge therapists is the evaluation of all therapy instituted in the General Care Areas. The initial evaluation is to include a brief patient history, the oxygen saturation, vital capacity, mental status, cough ability and respiratory rate. Based on this data , the patient is placed in one or more of the following protocols: Secretion Management, Bronchodilitation, Atelectasis Prevention/Pulmonary Hyperinflation or Airway Management. Within these protocols the therapist has the ability to titrate care to the appropriate level necessary.
