Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Course

The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocols are practiced frequently in the Simulation Center. Various manikins are used, depending on the location of training and the trainee background. Real defibrillators are used, in order to keep equipment skills current. The lab provides both defibrillators and AEDs for different trainee levels.

Many groups practice in the lab, including residents from multiple departments, medical and nursing students, and prehospital providers.

The Center itself does not currently run standard certification courses, but the hospital's certification course uses Center manikins and equipment. Recertification is given for the Department of Anesthesiology staff, which uses a modified content, without the drug lectures or airway stations. "Blitzes" are recertification testing sessions for those frequently participating in codes. They consist of only the test and megacode practical stations.
